Job Description

11 PA’s plus a supplement at 0.5 programmed activities for weekend cover (average 1:12).

The post would be 12 months in the first instance with a view to make permanent.

This is a full time post Specialty Doctor in Older Person Medicine. The post will rotate through working in different consultant teams – Duties are based on a 9.00-17.00 with no on calls. There will also be some outpatient duties and some sub specialty training. Candidates are however encouraged to do on calls on an ad hoc basis to meet training needs and service requirements. There will also be a requirement to do occasional weekend work

The successful candidates will work under the supervision of one of the Medicine for the Elderly consultants. They will however be expected to work at a senior (SpR) level. The work programme will be agreed with the applicants to try and meet their educational needs.

The Junior Doctor accepts that he/she will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultant and in consultation where practicable with his/her colleagues both junior and senior.

Person Specification

Full GMC Registration and license to practise

MBBS or equivalent

Preparing for or have achieved MRCP (UK) or equivalent

Minimum 4 years’ experience since FY2 with 2 of those years being in Geriatric medicine.

Evidence of experience in Geriatric Medicine and stroke medicine

Evidence of the ability to offer an expert clinical opinion on a range of problems in both emergency and elective aspects of Geriatric Medicine

Evidence of the ability to take responsibility for clinical care of patients

Evidence of the ability to perform within a multi-disciplinary team

Evidence of the ability to teach clinical skills to medical undergraduates and postgraduates

Evidence of an understanding of research methodology and an ability to interpret research findings

Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies and staff
