Duties/Responsibilities:

Hands-on involvement with the medical take, ensuring the timely development of appropriate management plans for patients.

Supervision and co-ordination of junior doctors within the unit

Helping to maintain multi-professional systems of care for common condition

Teaching and training of medical and nursing staff, both informal and formal

Leading the development of Clinical Governance framework for acute medicine

Developing alternative to in-patient management where clinically appropriate

Exploring ways to enhance communications between the MAU and the rest of the hospital and referring to clinicians in primary care

Skills/Experience:

Full GMC registration

MB ChB (or equivalent)

Entry on specialist register (or entry expected within 6 months)

Success in Intercollegiate specialty examination or overseas equivalent e.g. FCEM/MCEM

Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST/CCT in Emergency Medicine

Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems

Ability to take full responsibility for the clinical care of patients

ATLS+ALS provider

Experience of supervising junior medical staff

Ability to teach clinical skills

Ability to work in a team

Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives and staff
